Teaching is a tough job. Some days the kids drain every ounce of energy you have. Some days, they make you so proud you cry when they leave the classroom. Teachers have a skill set that can be transferred to running your own successful direct sales business. Teachers are organized, understand the need for systems, disciplined and more. All of the qualities that can be found in an outstanding teacher, can also be found in a successful business owner. When I was researching the skills necessary to be successful in direct sales, specifically LuLaRoe, I was surprised to see many of the things I was already doing on a daily basis, just in another context. These tips do not just apply to LuLaRoe but all full-time teachers in Direct Sales.
The “T” Word
The first thought that came to mind was, how the heck would I have time for this? A teachers day does not end when the last kid leaves the building. A teachers day begins likely hours before the first kid walks into the classroom. Grading, lesson planning, not to mention family time and having a life – how the heck could this work? The answer was simple – I could make it work if I wanted it to. I promised myself one hour a day of guarded business time. I could do that, one hour, long enough to be productive, not too long that it seemed unreasonable.
The next challenge I thought of was how would I learn all of these new things? I did exactly what I would have my students do before committing to a large project, research. By read blogs, listened to podcasts and Youtube videos, I educated myself. I read reviews, lots of them and talked to those in the business. I reached out to leaders and asked question. By reviewing the information again and again I became more confident in my ability to succeed and lead.
You Can Do This
Teaching is a gift. It’s an ability to share a skill, content or a lesson with others. Direct sales is similar. When you find something you’re passionate about, you want to share it with others. I know for me personally, that is part of why I became a history teacher. I want students to see that history matters, that the world is important and it does not have to be boring!
The same passion should be felt with your direct sales business. I am not going to lie, this isn’t my first business venture. The other, which shall remain nameless, felt like the right fit until I became more educated on the topic itself. Plus, I realized that to be successful you needed to grow a team and there was a lot of pressure to do that.
I love my LuLaRoe team and being a sponsor gives me great pride but a lot of that comes from not feeling pressured to sign ladies up left and right. My team is ladies who are the right fit for me and them. That is one unique feature of LuLaRoe, you can be successful with or without a team. I get to teach a new skill set and use my practice and methods in another way.
LuLaRoe culture is a beautiful thing as it’s filled with love, support and teamwork. LuLaRoe consultants may sell the same product, but customers can experience different patterns with each consultant they like to shop with due to LuLaRoe’s limited print nature. Similar to teaching, the collaborative nature of LuLaRoe was really appealing to me as it fits with my values and beliefs.
Teacher Skills that Apply to Business

- Ability to communicate
- Experienced in working in and creating groups
- Give effective and constructive feedback
- and so much more!
But I’m not a Teacher!
You do not need to be a teacher to be successful in this business! Successful business owners are successful not because of their title at another job, they are successful because they have a will and desire to learn, thrive and become successful. Teaching full time and running a business is my own personal experience. If you’re a busy lady but ready to change lives, I can help you. It does not matter if you’re a teacher, a stay a home mom, a lawyer, a nurse, I could go on and on! Working full time does not and should not scare you from creating your own business. You deserve the opportunity just like anyone else.
For me, LuLaRoe does not even feel like work! Of course it takes lots of hard work, any business does, but it is so much fun. LuLaRoe allows me to connect with amazing women. I get to connect with ladies all over the country and help them feel beautiful, confident and empowered through their clothing. Through my team, I get to empower, inspire and teach ladies how to do the same thing, grow a successful business.
Lucky for you, ladies who join my team, get all of the systems and resources that I spent months curating and creating. In this opportunity, I do not believe in reinventing the wheel. We know what works, we know what doesn’t. The LuLaRoe opportunity can be exactly what you want it to be. That’s the beauty of this opportunity!
